What’s new

What has changed from version to version – the same notes the app shows you after an update.

eGohm 1.6.0

German Bible Translations

  • NT reading texts now offer two German versions: the Einheitsübersetzung 1980 (EU 1980) and the Schlachter 2000 (SLT). The Psalms continue to come from the Septuagint (LXX). You can switch anytime — in Settings (Languages > German Bible Translation) and in the display menu — the eye icon above the reading.
  • Bible references are now clearer and consistent, and the abbreviation shown depends on the selected translation.
  • The Psalm title follows the selected translation. Previously it carried both numberings at once ("Psalm 11 [LXX] / Psalm 12"), even though only one ever applies.
  • Bible references are now available in all three languages: "Ps 64:12", "مزمور 64: 12", and Ⲯⲁⲗⲙⲟⲥ ⲝ̅ⲇ̅: ⲓ̅ⲃ̅
  • The "Bible Translations" page states the origin, description, and rights for each version.
  • Readings are more complete: 447 readings had no Coptic text at all. Now 99% of New Testament readings include it, verse by verse alongside the German and Arabic.

Coptic:

  • Coptic abbreviations for frequently used words (nomina sacra – Ⲓⲏ̅ⲥ̅, Ⲡⲭ̅ⲥ̅, Ⲡⲟ̅ⲥ̅, Ⲫϯ): these date back to a time when papyrus and parchment were expensive and these particular words appeared dozens of times per page. On screen, that reason no longer applies. For easier readability and accessibility, the full form reads more easily, and the transliteration pronounces it fully anyway. The abbreviations have therefore been converted to their full form.
  • Ordinal numbers are likewise spelled out in full (ⲡⲓⲙⲁϩ ⲥ̀ⲛⲁⲩ instead of ⲡⲓⲙⲁϩⲃ̅).

Feast of the Cross

  • New in the Morning Incense for the Feast of the Cross and the Finding of the Cross: the Cross Procession as its own book with all twelve stations.
  • Each station includes its Gospel prayer, its Psalm, its Gospel reading, and its Gospel response — from the main altar past the icons of the Virgin Mary, the Archangels Gabriel and Michael, the Apostle Mark, the disciples, the martyrs, and the saints, up to the icon of John the Baptist. The Hymn of Constantine frames the procession.
  • Above each station it shows where you are: "Station 3" with "Before the icon of the Archangel Gabriel" beneath it, along with the icon itself. Section headings can now carry a second line and an image for this purpose.
  • Also included: background on the feast — the story of Queen Helena and the finding of the Cross.

Coptic Calendar

  • The "Choose Date…" dialog now has a toggle between the Coptic and Gregorian calendars.
  • In the Coptic view, the Coptic day appears large in the cell with the Gregorian date small underneath; at a month change, with an abbreviation ("Oct 1"). This lets you see both calendars at a glance without switching.
  • The header shows the selected day in both calendars before you confirm it with OK.
  • In Arabic, the grid runs right to left.
  • New under Settings → Calendar: does the week start on Sunday or Monday? Previously this was decided by your device's language; now you decide.

Home, Library, and Reading View

  • The home screen arranges its cards based on window width; cards sitting side by side are now the same height.
  • The "today" card finally has its heading: "Liturgical Day."
  • On large screens, the margin grows instead of the content — on both the home screen and the library — so the two align on the same edge.
  • In the reading view, by contrast, the gap between language columns grows with the window; on phones everything stays as it was.
  • On Android, content no longer sits under the system navigation bar.

Doxologies

  • The doxologies of the Holy Virgin Mary in the Evening and Morning Incense, as well as at midnight, used to all appear one after another. Now only the correct one for that moment appears.

Roles and Books

  • Priest, bishop, reader, congregation, etc. now have their own icons instead of generic symbols.
  • Books whose texts are still in progress say so themselves: an "In Progress" banner on the tile and a note on the book's page. This affects Ordinations, Pascha, Anointing of the Sick, Marriage, and Priesthood.

Feedback

  • The form is new and guides you through four steps: message, images, contact address, review and send. A row of dots shows where you are, and the arrow takes you back.
  • A report can now carry multiple images instead of just one. "Record screen" sets the text and address aside, steps away briefly, and afterward you'll find everything as it was; "Choose from gallery" attaches existing photos without closing the form. Each image has its own remove button, up to five per report.
  • Fixed: the very first feedback submission after launch used to fail with "unavailable" because sending happened faster than the connection could be established; only the second attempt would go through.

Small Improvements

  • After an update, the app shows "What's New" once — everything added since your previous version. Fresh installs don't see this.
  • Synaxarium: the blessing formula now reads "May the blessing of their prayers be with us" instead of "their intercessions."

Bug Fixes

  • Fixed: the date dialog's height used to jump while scrolling when a month had five weeks (or Nasie had one).
  • Fixed: the transliteration of the Arabic "ترح" was incorrect; it now reads "tar7."
  • Each reading now appears only once in the database instead of in up to three copies, and its reference only once instead of twice — saving space and loading faster.
  • Fixed: 97 instances where the Arabic or Coptic column carried the text of a different verse — almost all in readings spanning two chapters, where the same verse number occurs twice. In Acts 18:28, the following verse 19:1 appeared a second time in Coptic; it has been removed.
  • Fixed: at the end of some Psalms, the Hallelujah appeared twice — once in the text, once appended by the app.
  • Fixed: a mix-up identified and corrected: in Matthew 20:5, the ninth hour had become the sixth.

Choosing a date in the Coptic calendar

  • "Choose a date…" in the church-year overview now opens its own dialog with a toggle between the Coptic and the Gregorian calendar – before, you only got your device's ordinary calendar.
  • In the Coptic view the Coptic day stands large in the cell with the Gregorian one small below it, carrying a short month name at the turn of the month ("1 Oct"). Both calendars are readable at a glance, without switching.
  • The header shows the chosen day in both calendars before you confirm it with OK.
  • The small months are there too: the five or six days of Nasie appear as a month of their own in the grid.
  • In Arabic the grid runs right to left.

Start of the week as a setting

  • New under Settings → Calendar: does the week start on Sunday or on Monday? Your device's language used to decide; now you do – the choice applies to the date dialog.

Feedback with several images

  • A report can now carry several images instead of just one. "Capture another screen" sets the current image aside together with your drawing, text and address and closes the form; you go to the next place, capture it, and find everything from before waiting for you. A bar offers "Continue" in the meantime.
  • "Pick an image" attaches existing photos or screenshots instead – the form stays open while you do.
  • Each image has a remove button, "Discard draft" clears everything, and a report holds at most five images. In the history they appear side by side as a strip.

Fixed

  • The very first report after a launch failed with "not available", because sending outran the connection being established; only the second try went through. Sending now waits for it, and opening the form starts it early.
  • In the date dialog the height jumped while paging when a month fitted into five weeks (or Nasie into one). The grid now keeps the same height in every month.

The Synaxarion

  • The book of the saints is here – 180 days from Thoout to Meshir: for every day of the Coptic calendar the commemorations of the saints, martyrs and fathers and the feasts of the Church, plus two introductory chapters.
  • In the Liturgy it sits where it belongs: after the Acts, before the Psalm and the Gospel – with the announcement of the day, "Today is the … day of the blessed month of …". The day is fetched automatically, like any other reading.
  • Scripture references and notes do not interrupt your reading: they sit behind a small icon and open at the bottom of the screen on tap.
  • Every commemoration closes with its blessing, and every day with "Glory be to our Lord for ever. Amen."
  • The months from Paremhat to Nesi will follow in one of the next updates.

Feedback that answers back

  • Until now you could write but never hear back. The team now replies, the answer appears under "My feedback" – with a badge when something new arrives – and you can write straight back.
  • A report can carry a screenshot you may draw on beforehand and, optionally, an e-mail address for follow-up questions. Without one everything stays anonymous, but the history is no longer reachable after a reinstall.
  • "Report this problem" now sits where the problem is; whatever you had open is sent along as context.
  • Fixed: "Report a problem" from the side menu failed every time on the phone.

Arabic interface right to left

  • With the app set to Arabic, the whole interface is now mirrored – side menu, cards, icons and images.
  • On first launch the interface language follows your device: an Arabic or German device language decides directly, otherwise the country does (Egypt → Arabic, DE/AT/CH → German), and everything else gets English. After that your own choice wins.

The day display leads somewhere

  • On the home screen and in the side menu every part of the day has its own destination: the name and image of the feast or fasting season lead to its directory entry, "Eve" and "Fast" each to an explanation, the date and the empty space to the calendar as before.
  • "Eve" and "Fasting season" have their own pages with a share button; the note about the switch-over time links straight to the setting it talks about.
  • Second days of feasts and the Coptic New Year period now point to the entry of their feast instead of ending in a "there is no page for this".

Reading

  • The display switch (the eye) now also offers the reading languages on pages carrying a psalm or a reading. Before, turning Coptic off there changed nothing – the switch looked broken.
  • Readings now default to German and Arabic: those are the two languages they are proclaimed in, and on a phone a fourth column gets tight. Prayers keep all three columns, and one tap brings Coptic back. Existing installations are moved over once – only if the reading languages were never changed by hand.
  • Doxologies: a button in the text jumps to the conclusion, and a "Back" button at the end returns you to where you came from.

New and completed texts

  • New book "Praise Hymns (Madayih)" with the hymns for Neyrouz and the Feast of the Cross.
  • Agpeya: Coptic intercessions added for several hours, and the psalms of each hour grouped into their own section.
  • Added: the missing verse of the Neyrouz doxology and further verses, the missing verse (17) of the Sunday Theotokia, and further variants of "Lord, have mercy".
  • Text corrections from the review: "Hades" instead of "hell", "Lord Jesus" in the refrains, and a set of spelling and wording fixes.

Privacy

  • A new "Privacy" section in the settings holds the "Anonymous usage statistics" switch: all that is counted is how often the app is opened – by platform, version and country. What you read or pray is not recorded, no advertising identifiers are used, and on the web it works without a cookie. One tap turns it off, with the link to the privacy policy next to it.

eGohm 1.4.0

Larger type

  • Font size now goes up to 600% instead of 180% – for anyone who needs the text much larger. The slider snaps to steps: fine ten-point steps in the everyday range, coarser further up.
  • The starting size follows your screen: on tablet and desktop the text begins larger than on the phone. You can change it at any time.
  • The slide show no longer cuts text off: if a single paragraph no longer fits on one page at a very large size, that page becomes scrollable for once – by wheel, swipe or the up/down arrow keys. Left/right still turn the page.
  • The "−" and "+" buttons in the font-size menu were invisible against the light menu surface and are back in view.

Baptism and Chrismation

  • The rite is complete: the consecration of the baptismal water with "Meet and right", "Holy, holy, holy" and the psalm verses, the baptism itself, the sealing with the holy Myron, the breathing of the Holy Spirit, the communion of the newly baptised and the prayer before draining the water.
  • Alongside the exhortation to parents and godparents there is now an exhortation for adults.
  • The blessings and the pouring of the Galilaion oil have been reordered, and the sequence of the Chrismation rite corrected.

More new and completed texts

  • Agpeya: the 2nd and 3rd Watch of the Midnight Prayer were empty apart from the introduction – they are now complete.
  • The commemoration of the departed carries the list of former patriarchs again.
  • The communion prayers before and the thanksgiving after have been revised and missing paragraphs added; the Liturgy of St Basil now has its own "Conclusion" section.
  • "Communion Hymns" is now called "Distribution Hymns".
  • Added deacon responses: "Let those who are seated stand", "Look towards the East", "We hear" and the response for the Pope.
  • The text and the refrain of "Our Saviour invited us" have been corrected.
  • Aspasmos Adam and the verses for Theophany have been added.
  • Many prayer titles are shorter – without the leading article.

The three incense hymns

  • "Ti Shouri", "Tai Shouri" and "Entho te ti Shouri" now sit side by side: the hymn that applies to the day is preselected, the other two stay available to look up. Each one says when it is sung.
  • They have been added for the Fast of Nineveh.

Text quality

  • The Coptic transliteration now follows a fixed rule set based on the diocese's teaching text ("Maren-ohsh, level 1"). Ⲃ, Ⲅ, Ⲇ, Ⲑ, Ⲩ, Ⲭ and Ϫ are now rendered according to their surroundings – 19,376 lines in 986 files were brought in line, among them the Saturday Psali.
  • The punctuation of the transliterations now matches the Coptic and Arabic source text (1,417 lines).
  • The liturgy switcher labels its three variants on one line again and scrolls sideways when they do not fit next to each other.

eGohm 1.3.0

New and completed texts

  • Agpeya: the missing parts of the 1st Watch of the Midnight Prayer have been added, as has the Midnight Doxology.
  • The prayer before and after Holy Communion is now included.
  • The doxologies are now introduced by "Through Christ Jesus …".
  • The hymn "Ti Shouri" appears again before the Hiteniat.
  • "Make us worthy …" now precedes the Lord's Prayer.
  • The Gospel responses now follow the liturgical season.
  • Psalmody, Theotokias and Tasbeha have been revised and completed; the doxologies are set antiphonally throughout, so the parts are easy to follow.

Bishops and clergy

  • In the Hiteniat, attending diocesan bishops are now commemorated according to your settings.
  • New setting "Metropolitans present as well" for the collective form without names.
  • The commemoration of the Pope has been corrected: Anba, "II." and "Patriarch" are back in place.
  • "Archdeacon" is now used consistently.

Handling

  • The main menu can now also be opened with a swipe from the left edge of the screen – the edge strip is wider and works in reading mode too, without accidentally turning the page.
  • Long sections such as "Ordinations of Deacons" start collapsed and can be opened when needed; the same applies to links to other prayers and books.

Shared links

  • Shared links to app.egohm.de now open straight in the app.
  • Opened in a browser, they show a discreet hint about the app.

Text quality

  • Many corrections to spelling, punctuation and line breaks as well as to Coptic spellings and the Arabic transliteration – among them "twelve Apostles" instead of "twelve disciples", "Saint Athanasius", and a consistent rendering of the "Amen".
  • In the Marriage rite, the German and Arabic lines line up correctly again.
