2. Hosting of this website

This website is served as a static site via GitHub Pages (GitHub, Inc., 88 Colin P. Kelly Jr. Street, San Francisco, CA 94107, USA). When you open the site, GitHub processes technically necessary connection data (including IP address, time, requested file, browser identification) in server log files. The legal basis is Art. 6 (1) (f) GDPR (secure and reliable operation). We have no access to these log files; their retention is governed by GitHub's privacy statement.

3. This website: no cookies, no tracking

This website sets no cookies, uses no analytics or tracking services and loads fonts and images exclusively from its own server. No cookie banner and no consent are therefore required.

Section 5 applies instead to the web version of the app at app.egohm.de: usage is counted anonymously there. That too happens without a cookie and without storing anything in your browser.

4. Donations via PayPal

The donation page embeds a donate button by PayPal (PayPal (Europe) S.à r.l. et Cie, S.C.A., 22–24 Boulevard Royal, 2449 Luxembourg). The button image and a tracking pixel are loaded from PayPal servers, so PayPal receives your IP address and browser information. After you click it, the payment happens entirely at PayPal; we receive no payment data, only the information about donations received (name and amount, as far as PayPal passes it on). Legal basis: Art. 6 (1) (f) GDPR, and Art. 6 (1) (b) GDPR when a donation is carried out. PayPal's privacy statement: paypal.com.

5. The eGohm app

The app stores all content locally on your device and works without an internet connection. There are no user accounts, no sign-in and no advertising. Settings (such as languages, font size and Bible translation) are stored locally only. Beyond that, data leaves your device only in the three cases described below.

Web app at app.egohm.de

The web version is delivered via Firebase Hosting (Google Ireland Limited, Gordon House, Barrow Street, Dublin 4, Ireland). This produces server-side log data including your IP address, the time and the requested file. The legal basis is Art. 6 (1) (f) GDPR (secure and reliable operation). We have no access to these log files.

Anonymous usage statistics

To know how many people use eGohm and whether a new version is being adopted, the app uses Google Firebase Analytics (Google Ireland Limited) to count how often it is opened, broken down by platform, app version and country. What is transmitted for this is a randomly assigned identifier for this installation of the app, the device type and operating system version, and the time. Google derives the country from the truncated IP address; the address itself is not stored.

Which prayers, readings or books you open is not recorded. No advertising identifiers are collected. There is no profiling and no tracking across apps or websites. In the web version at app.egohm.de the count sets no cookie and stores nothing in your browser; every visit counts as a new device there.

The legal basis is Art. 6 (1) (f) GDPR (interest in developing the app further). You can object to the count at any time by switching it off in the app under Settings → Privacy → Anonymous usage statistics. The app then works exactly as before and nothing further is transmitted. Google deletes the data after two months.

Feedback from the app

If you send us feedback through “report an error”, we process what you enter in order to be able to reply to you. Nothing is transmitted unless you actively send it.

Anonymous identifier. The first time you send something, the app signs in anonymously with Firebase Authentication. This creates a random identifier with no link to your person, an account or your email address. It serves only to match your own feedback and our replies to it. No such identifier is created if you never send feedback. It is lost if you delete or reinstall the app; earlier feedback is then no longer reachable in the app.

Content. We store your text, our replies, the time, the app version, the platform (e.g. Android) and, for a report made at the point of an error, which content was affected, which date was set and which bishop variant is selected. Names of selected bishops are not transmitted.

Screenshot. Only if you attach one in the form. It shows the screen from which you opened the report; you can review it and draw on it beforehand. It is readable only by you and by us.

Email address. Optional. It serves only for follow-up questions if the route through the app no longer works, and is not used for advertising.

Storage. The data is held at Google Firebase (Firestore and Cloud Storage) in the Frankfurt region (europe-west3). The legal basis is Art. 6 (1) (f) GDPR (interest in fixing errors), and Art. 6 (1) (a) GDPR insofar as you voluntarily give us an email address. We delete feedback once it has been dealt with, at the latest after twelve months.

6. Transfers to the USA

The services named above, GitHub Pages and Google Firebase, may also process data on servers in the USA. GitHub, Inc. (through Microsoft Corporation) and Google LLC are certified under the EU-US Data Privacy Framework. For companies certified under it, the European Commission established an adequate level of data protection by decision of 10 July 2023 (Art. 45 GDPR). The European Commission's standard contractual clauses apply in addition. The certifications can be viewed at dataprivacyframework.gov.

7. Your rights

You have the right of access (Art. 15 GDPR), rectification (Art. 16 GDPR), erasure (Art. 17 GDPR), restriction of processing (Art. 18 GDPR), data portability (Art. 20 GDPR) and objection (Art. 21 GDPR). Please use the address given above.

You can request deletion of your feedback at any time at egohm@kopten.de. Please state roughly when you sent it and what it was about, as we cannot otherwise identify it as yours.

Where we process data on the basis of your consent, you can withdraw it at any time with effect for the future. Independently of that, you have the right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority (Art. 77 GDPR). The authority responsible for us is the Hessian Commissioner for Data Protection and Freedom of Information, Gustav-Stresemann-Ring 1, 65189 Wiesbaden, Germany.

8. Changes to this policy

We update this privacy policy when the website, the app or the legal requirements change.
